ABOUT ME
Hi, I'm Jacob
WHERE I COME FROM
I was born and raised in the small town of Abrams, WI by two incredible parents, Curt and Kathy VandenPlas. I graduated in 2002 from Oconto Falls High School and shortly after left for basic training in Ft. Benning GA.
A THRIVING CAREER
After Basic training it didn’t take long before I was deployed to Iraq with B. Co. 2_127th infantry battalion. When the 2_127 started making their way home after our 15-month long tour, I decided to stay with the oncoming unit C. Co. 1-121st Field Artillery. Coming home was a struggle, not just for me but for many of my fellow Combat Veterans. For many years I struggled. But those struggles have led me to where I am today. I am the founder of DC Farm for Vets, a non-profit, where we help those struggling and bring a sense of purpose back into their lives. I am also a member of the Door County Farm Bureau Board that helps grow and support our local farmers. Recently I was asked to sit on the State of Wisconsin Farm Federation Board to help support Wisconsin agriculture industries. Here in Sturgeon Bay I’m a member of the American Legion in Forestville, AM Vets, and VFW. Our Veteran community is very important to me. I believe very strongly that building stronger local communities is how we are best equipped to tackle some of the challenges we face as a nation. It all starts at home, right here in our local community. In Door County!
